Grains of Sand Band

30/12/2017

Live Bands For Hire

Meet The Band

Get ready for a musical journey from Doo Wop to Motown, from Beach Music to Memphis Soul. Whether you need entertainment for your Town Square or a Black-Tie event, class reunion or wedding, the GOS Band provides stellar showmanship and a whole lot of “happy”.

With more than half a century of combined playing experience, the band is comprised of seven of the finest musicians in the country. These are true artists, players who have performed with artists like Marvin Gaye, The Platters, Jerry Butler, The Marvelettes, Jackie Wilson, and Patti Labelle to name a few.

Effortlessly blending Beach, Soul, and Motown music, the GOS create a fresh and energetic sound that will have you feeling the warm sand between your toes again. Just like magic, you’ll be transported to another place and time as you listen to their soaring, soulful vocals, tasteful and timeless keys, subtle and sassy guitars and of course, the smokin’ hot horns!

With deep roots in Soul, Motown and Beach music, The Grains of Sand Band takes you on a musical journey when they perform classic hits from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Put together Scotty, Donny and Phil in the horn section with Greg V. on bass, Jody on guitar, Dean on drums and Greg S. on the keys, throw in some strong vocals with smooth harmonies and a jigger of stellar showmanship – shake – and you have an instant party.

Here Are A Few Comments From Past Events

“What a wonderful show! The Grains of Sand Band is a high energy group that plays crowd pleasing music that got people of all ages on their feet and dancing. They were professional, prompt, and such a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend them and look forward to working with them again in the future.”

Folks, the Grains of Sand put on one of the BEST show’s I have seen in a long, long time. I have seen many bands perform over the span of some 40+ years, I rank the Grains of Sand up there with the best I have ever seen.

Mike Griffin

Georgia Peach Festival

What a great way to begin our concert season! The Grains of Sand Band played the music we grew up with and provided opportunities for singing along and dancin’ the night away. Their mix of Beach, Soul and Motown kept our crowd energized and talking about the band long after their last song. The GOSB is highly professional and were easy to work with from the initial contact to the actual concert night. I highly recommend them if you want good music from the 50’s and 60’s. Good instrumentation and vocals. If you hire them, you’ll be pleased.

Thanks for the great job the band did at our July Florence After Five in downtown Florence. You are truly a professional sounding and acting group of musicians and it was a pleasure to have you at our event. We look forward to having Grains of Sand for a return performance at a future event.

MOST RECENT REFERENCE LETTER  – June 13, 2016

Jim,

We could not possibly have been more satisfied with the incredible performance by ‘Live Exchange’ during the wedding dinner for Jaclyn and Travis. In fact, satisfied is nowhere near expressive enough for our delight. They are all very talented musicians, and a compliment to your profession. We know very well that our wedding would not have been as successful without their performance. Please convey our feeling on to them with our gratitude.

To you, I give my special thanks for your thoughtful consideration and your facilitating the arrangements on behalf of Blue Sky Atlanta.

When I get the photos from the photographer I will send some of the band [if I find them useful for your marketing purposes].

In the meantime, I have attached a few photos that were sent to me by others attending the occasion, and offer [if necessary], to agree to be a reference to perspective clients, should they need encouragement to ‘close the sale’.

My very best regards, and thanks again for your special service.

Blue Sky Band

01/11/2017

Live Bands in Atlanta

Meet The Band

Blue Sky is one of Atlanta’s best-known live wedding music dance bands. A twenty-five year history of entertaining and documented success hopefully speaks loudly and persuasively on their behalf.

Atlanta music band, Blue Sky, has proven that it is the group, which can literally do it all. Capably led by Atlanta veteran pianist vocalist, Jim Tiernan, the band plays such an enormous variety of music that it successfully performs all types of live music and entertainment at wedding receptions, corporate parties, Christmas/holiday parties, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, theme parties and the Southeast’s private country clubs. On any given evening, Blue Sky can include some of the newest favorites, Rat Pack standards, Beach and lots of Classic Rock, Blues and nostalgia. Additionally, ethnic repertoire can also be provided. If you are looking for live music at your venue with a unique creative theme party or special event, Blue Sky will bring your ideas to life!

References for the group will attest to the wonderful attitude and personality of the band, to their prompt and courteous behavior and willingness to pay close attention to detail. Be assured that this discipline and dedication is what separates the group from a myriad of other aspiring bands.  Call (678) 467-8263 for an outstanding quote today!

We had Blue Sky’s trio at our wedding reception in March 2015, and they were top notch. Jim Tiernan made a special effort to get to know my future hubby and I several weeks prior to the party so that he could get a feel for our music taste. Unfortunately for him, we had no strong preferences. Our advice was to play a mix of everything and to just read the crowd and their reaction.
They nailed it. Early in the night they played good dinner music and as the night went on, they amped it up. They honored the requests that came in and made everyone feel part of the party.
Additionally, Jim was great with my dad. He had some big video planned but the audio was not working out the way he planned. Jim was quick to step up and offer to help. It was so nice to work with someone who cared about the whole event.
Many thanks.
Amanda & Mike

Jim – Henry and I want to thank you for the fantastic job that you and the Blue Sky Band did at our wedding reception on Sat. March 13, 2010 at the Peachtree Club! We had a blast dancing and so did
all of our friends and family. We loved the song list we selected and the music really made our wedding reception “a bash!” We’ve had lots of comments about how great the music was.  Thank you
again for making it a night we’ll always remember!

Jim,

Thanks so much for making our party fabulous! The band was great, super, extraordinary etc. etc.!!! Everyone had a great time and I hold you responsible! My feet let me know the next day that I had on my dancing shoes. Take care and hope we can do it at least once more in this lifetime. If you ever need a reference let me know.
Fondly, Boots

p.s. I just wanted to add my 2 cents and tell you that Blue Sky was Awesome Friday night June 5, 2009 at the Chastain Horse Park, but you could tell by there never being room on the dance floor. All of our friends talked about the music so we hope you get some future dates from it , you deserve it.

Regards,
Ken-Bob

Hi Jim,

Married life has been great. I cannot believe it has been two and a half months already! Time flew and we had tons to do after the wedding!
We could not have been happier with the level of service and wonderful performance you all gave. It was exactly what we wanted and we have had many comments about how wonderful you all were. Thank you so much for giving our wedding the atmosphere we dreamed of!
Can’t wait to hear you again at our friend’s wedding in September!

Hi Jim

Thank you! You and the Blue Sky Band did a wonderful job at our wedding reception at the Atlanta National Golf Club on Saturday November 1, 2008.. I know our guests had a great time. We’ve received a lot of compliments about your performance and how much everyone enjoyed themselves. Even my dad, for the short time he was able to attend the reception, enjoyed your performance, which is always a tough sell because he’s a professional musician! So glad you guys had a good time as well! You definitely earned my recommendation.

Thanks again,

Suzanne and Jim

Dear Jim:

You haven’t lost your touch! The music for my daughter’s wedding on the 31st of August, 2008 was wonderful! Your band played such a diverse repertoire and you exceeded my expectations. Because you kept the energy level high, the dance floor was packed all night. I was surprised to see so many people dancing throughout the evening, which is a credit to Blue Sky’s wonderful skills.

The Naylor Hall package includes a D.J. but they don’t know what they are missing. It was so nice to have you host the reception as the touch of class would be missing if you were not there. When I had used your services in the past, I never thought I would be in a position to need a band again. I am just thrilled and hope another occasion will arrive in the future when I call on you again. You are terrific!

Sincerely,

Sandra H.

I have heard nothing but great reviews about your fantastic tunes. It really was a great addition to make our luncheon first class this year. Jim,

Thank you for providing The Blue Sky Band, the perfect music for our daughter’s wedding celebration at the Ritz-Carlton on Saturday June 10, 2006.

Normally, most of my friends are very quiet and don’t dance, but your band had everyone on the dance floor the whole night. Your music appealed to all ages – from the 5-year-old flower girl to the oldest guests in their 70′s. I have had phone calls and emails from my friends telling me that they have never had so much fun on the dance floor.

I hope you will be hearing from some friends who got your card because they want to talk with you about playing at one of their fund raisers in Cashiers, North Carolina.

Thank you for adding so much to the evening. It was amazing.

I would recommend your band to anyone, you were the perfect choice for our reception. Thanks again for everything!

Wow! You and your band, Blue Sky, were so much more than I ever imagined! You managed to make Kate & Brian’s wedding reception magical. I can’t believe anyone would want Dj after hearing your group – in fact, I just gave your card to a lady on my tennis team whose daughter is getting married next May, 2006. Thanks so much Blue Sky Atlanta. Toni & Joe Crowley

Dear Jim:
Just a quick note to tell you once again how much the crowd enjoyed your performance with your band Blue Sky on Friday September 17, 2004. You really hit the nail on the head with your song selections. And if it weren’t for this group’s hip replacements, bum knees, heart problems, etc., the dance floor would have been PACKED.

Almost a month has passed since our wedding and Don & I are still savoring the memories of that day. We want to thank you and “Blue Sky” for providing the perfect music for the occasion – from your piano solo to the dance music and your vocals – it was just what we had envisioned for our celebration. Dear Jim,
I wanted to write and thank you for making Megan and Seth’s reception such a wonderful time. Jen, I thoroughly enjoyed working with you. You were so accessible and had all the answers for a first time ‘mother of the bride’. Jim, the music was great. You and your band were the height of professionalism. The combination of your band and the DJ was exactly what Megan and Seth were looking for. The UGA ‘tribute’ was such fun. I know all the alumni got a kick out of it. Once again, thank you for making Megan’s special day all the more memorable. And since I have two more daughters, we will be calling you again!!
Sincerely, Marilyn and Donnie Massey
Dear Jim:
You and your band were perfect for our wedding reception at Studio Two. Remember my only requirement, that you keep people dancing? Well, I think some of our guests wore out the soles of their shoes. You helped us put on the best wedding ever! We have friends getting married in October in Norcross. They’ve hired a DJ (ugh), but she is looking for an organ player for the ceremony. I’ve given her your name and web page. I hope you can help her out.
Best wishes,

Dear Mr Tiernan:
We just wanted to extend out appreciation for your participation in this year’s California Hardware event at the Carter Center on February 9, 2002 in Atlanta. Your total professionalism and cooperation form the set list, to your early arrival and having to switch the location of the setup of your band prior to to the reception’s start was very helpful. Not to mention your music, which was top notch.
Again, we thank you, and not only will we recommend you but hope that an opportunity may arise in the future for us to work together again. Respectfuly Yours, Earl Bender – Avenel Associates – Washington, D.C.
Dear Jim: I want to thank you and your great band, Blue Sky. In the seven years Tom Egan and I have been involved with this event, we think your band was the best and most versatile we’ve ever had. When you find a great band you don’t want to let them go! We will pass your name along to the many attendees who asked about how to reach you. Thanks for throwing in that Irish music!

“We hired Jim and his band, Blue Sky, for the first function I was involved in at ACRI, a holiday party for 250 doctors on December 5, 2001 at the Egyptian Ballroom, and I have to say that from start to finish they were a great help. The music was exactly what we needed and they even learned a few songs I asked them to play for my wife and I. Since the event I have been in contact with Jim who has been in the music business for over 20 years in Atlanta, to help up with other fundraisers. I give Blue Sky, Jim Tiernan and Blue Sky Atlanta a BIG thumbs up!”

Testimonials for Blue Sky Band:

Katherine and Ben Giles Stevens
Hi Jim

Sincerely,

Sandra H.

Dear Jim:

Thanks you so much for helping to make our wedding day such a blast! You and your band “Blue Sky” are truly a talented bunch and we had the time of our lives dancing to your MUSIC!

Our guests kept telling us what a great time they had. Many have told us they had the best time they’ve ever had at a wedding! We will be sure to recommend you to anyone we know who’s looking for some great entertainment.

Jim,

I wanted to THANK YOU again for such a wonderful performance last Friday for our Atlanta Braves’ Hall of Fame Luncheon at Turner Field’s 755 Club. I have heard nothing but great reviews about your fantastic tunes. It really was a great addition to make our luncheon first class this year. I will let you know if anything comes up in the future and Im of course recommending you to those that are looking for a first class pianist.

Judy Cope

Jim,
Lauren and I would like to thank you and your band for an amazing performance and helping to make our reception so much fun for everyone, young and old alike. You were so gracious and accommodating in letting my sister Gayle sing with your band. You did a great job at keeping everyone entertained and the quality was top notch. I would recommend your band to anyone, you were the perfect choice for our reception. Thanks again for everything!

Dear Jim:

Best wishes,
Pam & Steve Shipley
